The Turkish word turbesi means tomb. This mausoleum is located in Amasya, Turkey. The Torumtay Turbesi was built in 1278 and is an example of Seljukian tomb architecture. It is where the Ilkhanid Emir Torumtay was buried. The Ilkanids were Mongols who had their own dynasty in the 13th century. They had replaced the Seljuks. The town of Amasya has a long history dating back to the Hittites and was occupied by the Pontics, Romans and Byzantines. The town was taken over by the Ottomans in 1392.
